Now Playing Tracks

Just a quick tip tonight. If you find yourself using Twitter a lot more since joining Empire Avenue, you really owe it to yourself to check out a Twitter client like HootSuite (if you haven’t already). I already mentioned how the app allows you to schedule tweets throughout the day. Another great feature is it provides a multicolumn display. I can have a column with a saved search on “#EmpireAve”, “#Empire Avenue” and “Empire Avenue. So anytime someone tweets about the site, I know it quickly. It will also track for you whether your messages have been retweeted and how far. If you are still using the Twitter website, consider trading up.

To Hook a Whale on Empire Avenue, Use Linkbait

In stockbroker circles, a ‘whale’ is a really big client ready to invest a wad of cash. Needless to say, we want whales to come our way on Empire Avenue.  One way to hook a whale is by impressing them with a blog.  I have been told numerous times already that someone invested in me because of my blog.  However, it does not matter how compelling your content is if you nobody sees it.  You need to promote your writing.  A great way to do that for Empire Avenue is to use Twitter because so many people have their Twitter accounts linked to EA.  But, what do you say to get people interested enough to click on your blog link.  That’s where linkbait comes in.

Linkbait is a way of using a headline to get people to click.  If you want to get someone to visit your blog, you would not say, ‘Linguistic techniques to foster spontaneous transaction’ instead you might say, ‘5 words to make your blog links irresistible’. It’s about using humour, provocative statements, breaking news and other action words to get people to act.

The following are examples of linkbait Twitter posts:

  • 5 steps to doubling your money on Empire Avenue
  • Empire Avenue set to surpass Facebook
  • I will buy shares of anyone that leaves a comment on my blog
  • Why are you Favouring Your Dogs Over Your Cows on Empire Avenue?
  • Why Empire Avenue will Fail

Types of Linkbait

Some people see linkbait as gimicky, ineffective and a turn-off.  It can be.  If you said, something like “The Reason Empire Avenue is a Failure” and your blog post said the reason is because you think it will be even bigger in the future, people would feel ripped off.  On the other hand, if you backup whatever your clever heading was, people will be glad they clicked on your link even if they disagree with you.  It all comes back to providing value.  Help people and they will make you wealthy — well pretend wealthy anyway.

What do you think of Linkbait?  Do you use it?  Have you had any feedback?

You gotta love people who give thumbs up ratings to Protected Tweets on Empire Avenue. Perhaps they are taking my blog post and advice about supporting people a little too far. What’s up about linking private tweets anyway? Folks, you want to be private - great. Either don’t link or set up another Twitter account.
With love - Bill.
Empire Avenue rewards Facebook posts, friend growth and friend comments. However, a lot of people only use Facebook with their friends. So, I use this simple technique to build my friends list: Every time someone follows me on EA or buys my shares, I follow them their, follow them on Twitter, add them to my Twitter Empire Avenue list and ask them if they want me to add them to Facebook. I have gotten many followers on both services. Build your value, build your Facebook friend list. Start by friending me now.

Why should you retweet a cool Twitter Empire Avenue related Twitter post from someone else? Because they will be much more likely to return the favour. And the reason you care about that is it means more EA fans will learn about you. Especially, when your posts link to your blog or EA profile. Just another way to get investors and followers.

People on Empire Avenue talk about their stock price dropping on the weekend. I had a very good weekend. Check my graphs. Want to know one of my tricks? I used scheduled Tweets and Blog postings to share information when I wasn’t there. I just prepared it the night before, and it went out the next day automatically. I use Tumblr to schedule blog posts and Hootsuite to schedule Twitter posts.

I see Empire Avenue related Twitter posts and other announcements all the time that include someone’s ticker, but not a link. The person is sharing their ticker I.D. in hopes I would visit their profile. You want me to visit your profile? Include a link to it. Don’t make me type or search it. Even if you are including a link that is not clickable, at least I can cut and paste that. Sure, it’s not that hard to search, but I am not that motivated to check you out. But don’t worry. I still love you.

How to Be a Twitter Star for #EmpireAve

On Empire Avenue, your stock price is determined by how many of your shares people buy and your influence.  And, how many shares people buy is affected by your influence. Clearly, influence is important there.

Your influence level is determined by adding up the following in some secret EA manner (among other things):

  1. How active you are on the site in general.
  2. How active you are on other sites linked to your profile.
  3. The number of people you support and follow on the site.
  4. The number of people you support and follow on linked sites.
  5. The amount you interact with others on Empire Avenue.

So, when it comes to Twitter you need to be doing the following things:

  1. If you don’t have one, you need an account.
  2. You need your account linked to Empire Avenue.
  3. You need to post to twitter (tweet) on a regular basis.
  4. You need to say interesting things so that people will want to follow you.
  5. If you have a linked blog, you should be tweeting about it.
  6. You need to follow other people.
  7. You need to get people to follow you.

Twitter Bird

Here are a number of things you can do to get people to follow you:

  1. Follow other Empire Avenue members.  They are trying to build their influence.  So, they have an incentive to follow you back.
  2. Follow people on Empire Avenue.
  3. Post Shout Outs on people’s EA profiles to let them know you are following them on Twitter and EA.
  4. If you have the talent, create an interesting background on your Twitter page for those that use the service on the web.
  5. Create an Empire Avenue list on Twitter and add EA members to it.  Twitter users can see who has added them to lists.
  6. Use the #EmpireAve hashtag in your tweets just like I did here to allow other twitter users to easily find your Empire Avenue posts.

To find interesting Empire Avenue members to follow on Twitter, you can do the following:

  1. Look for a Twitter link on the main page of people’s EA profiles.
  2. Use the search function in Twitter to find people using the #EmpireAve hashtag.
  3. Look for Twitter lists of EA members on the Twitter pages of people you already follow there.  (see my page twitter.com/empirebuilding for examples).

Here are some other random thoughts:

  • Don’t start following hundreds of people on Twitter at once.  It will look like you don’t care about the people you follow.
  • If you use your existing Twitter Account for anything of importance and are worried about flooding it with Empire Avenue messages considering creating a second Twitter account and liking EA to that one instead.  Just remember, you will lose the benefit of anyone that is already following you.

Finally, if you haven’t already, don’t forget to follow me on Twitter.  Together, we will build an Empire.
